Remembering Hawthorne Center

Posted May 14, 2008 @ 11:33 AM

On a blustery day last fall, just before sunset, I took a walk and found myself on the grounds of Hawthorne Center. A few stubborn leaves clung to the trees while their fallen brothers swirled around on the ground. I wandered back to places where streets used to be.

Planting season begins early

Posted May 14, 2008 @ 11:30 AM

As I write to you this morning, our 30 percent chance of scattered showers has turned into a torrential downpour. L.O.L. (Lessons on Life): 'Your life story'

Posted May 14, 2008 @ 11:28 AM

Have you noticed that I love to write? It is a therapy that has sustained my mental strength for these many years. In honor of all Mothers and in celebration of Mother's Day, May 11, I would like to share a tribute that I wrote over sixteen years ago, a few days before my Mom's death.

Recalling one of my favorite albums

Posted May 07, 2008 @ 09:23 AM

This year is the 30th anniversary of one of my favorite albums of all time - Warren Zevon's "Excitable Boy" album. I bought it when I was 15 and I've always considered it a masterpiece of its time. It was one of those albums you could put on the old turntable and listen to it straight through.
